This is the first diocesan/archdiocesan we’ve reviewed and I must admit to being pleasantly surprised. The biggest strength of this app is its content which appears to be aggregated from the Archdiocesan website itself, and broken into 4 categories: “Discovering the Faith”, “Living our Faith”, “Expressing our Faith”, and “Local Archdiocesan News”.
Other app highlights include:
- A “connect” button that enables users to connect with the Archdiocese on multiple platforms: Twitter, Google+, Facebook, Archdiocesan e-newsletter, Catholic Ministries appeal, and a Prayer Wall where users can upload prayer requests.
- “ChurchCast” which taps into multiple Mass streams throughout the diocese at different times.
- “Events” tab so users can connect with archdiocesan events
- “Find a Parish”
When I first opened the app, I have to admit I was a bit underwhelmed by the design. The developers definitely chose function over design, however that is probably a good thing since this decision makes the app very straight forward and easy to navigate. Other than a straight forward design – which is not a terrible “con”, it’s definitely a solid app!
Solid app. Does what an Archdiocesan app ought to do and strives to do more via the ChurchCast. If you live in the Archdiocese of Cincinatti you should definitely download it! Other Diocesan/Archdiocesan Communication Directors take note!
