I Got Jesus provides a handy tool if you find yourself wanting to set aside more structured pray time. Hit “Begin Praying” and it starts timing you – then click “Amen” and your time is logged and you are able to select your intention through a pre-defined list with options such as “Christian Unity” and “Aurora Victims” with the option to enter your own intention under “other”. Although it is a generic Christian app, it allows your to enter any books your used such as the Bible or Breviary and jot down notes. This is a nice way to track yourself if you have a goal to set aside more time to be with the Lord in prayer – especially with the free price tag.
Cons:
I Got Jesus has options to share your location, books used, and prayer time and location to their website. While I’m sure this could be inspiring for some, it seems unnecessary if not odd. More alarming are the options to share each prayer session via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or email. Certainly our Lord had something to say about this: “But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (Matt. 6:6, RSV).
Solid app. Overall this app is just what I mentioned at first: a handy tool. Hopefully it can help some who often find structure pray time lacking in their lives and give them some impetus to establish routine prayer. However, a lot of the apps public features don’t sit well with me. Take a look at their website and judge for yourself whether a stream of prayer intentions and time spent praying inspires you. As for the other features, it may be best to consider first if Jesus would tweet his prayers to the Father.
