As a Catholic, learning to pray on your own is a challenge. Maybe you have a home full of shouting (but happy) children, or a lot of schoolwork, or an occupation that expends grabs your attention and time. This probably means you need daily prayer more than anything else. You better believe it, I know…
…it’s what we all need!
So then you are looking for a Catholic daily devotional, but don’t know where to start, or even where to look? This little app, built on the words of Jesus can likely help you on your way. And you can start your own Catholic daily devotion, a peaceful and intimate prayer time with Jesus.
When I was just getting started in my prayer life, I thought that it was hard to find clear direction in figuring out how to pray.
This tiny little app is full to the brim of the Words of Jesus. Each day of the year has a single bible verse with only the words of Jesus. This is an app that is designed to give you the gift of prayer in a very short amount of time. Below Jesus’ words is a one or two sentence meditation to give you a starting point in your meditation for the day.
The church teaches that the Words of Jesus are life, and speaking them and reading them everyday can really put you into a position of prayer.
The “Words with Jesus” app is a great solution. You can set a daily reminder, which is really helpful.
Other features include:
– Short Scriptures featuring the Words of Jesus
– Brief Reflection (and I do mean brief)
– Links to share on Social Networks
– Link to online Bible
This app can give you just the right amount of push if you are a beginner at daily prayer. Being a Catholic is more than just attending mass and receiving the sacraments. It is an ongoing process to open yourself up to the Lord. Many of my spiritual directors and faithful friends and pastors have said that any amount of time is enough time, when you are starting out. It is like any other habit and relationship, just a few minutes a day and you can be on your way to much more.
There are lots of apps that you can use for daily catholic devotion, this is just one of the smallest, quickest ones that I have discovered. It is also one of the first apps where I met the developer, Allison Gingras http://www.reconciledtoyou.com/ . She is a wonderful person who improved with her own daily prayer and wanted to help others find a deeper relationship with Jesus.
Allison founded Reconciled To You (#RTY) ministries in 2009 to share her personal discovery of the love of Christ and the amazing gift of opening our hearts to embrace God’s grace especially in our every day, ordinary lives.
Allison shares these with great enthusiasm, passion and a sense of humor wherever God allows her – with a great desire to open hearts and minds to the beauty and blessings of following Christ through the Catholic faith!
