Catholicer Beads

Prayer is personal, but it was never meant to be only private. Catholicer Beads is built around that truth. It is a prayer app made for praying together, especially in groups and prayer meetings, and it keeps the needs of the wider Church in front of you as you pray. Its makers say it has been used in more than fifty countries.

What it offers

The app lets you join others in prayer and hold up shared intentions, so your own decade becomes part of something larger. The design is modern and leans into technology in a way some people will love and others will find a bit much. For a prayer group leader, having the group's prayer in one place may be a real help. It is free and runs on iPhone and iPad.

Things to weigh

The biggest caveat is age. Catholicer Beads has not been updated since 2020, and an app built around connecting people depends on its services staying active. It's worth checking that the shared features still work before building a group around it. The app has only ten ratings, though they are positive, averaging 4.6.

Style is the other question. If you just want to pray the Rosary quietly on your own, a simpler Rosary app will probably suit you better, and there are many good free ones. Catholicer Beads makes the most sense when the shared side of prayer is what you are after.

It suits leaders of prayer groups, parish ministries that pray together for the Church's needs, and Catholics who are drawn to praying in solidarity with believers around the world. Younger Catholics who are comfortable with a tech-forward design may enjoy it most.

The verdict: Catholicer Beads is a thoughtful idea for shared prayer, free to try and well rated by its few users. Given its age, try it first and make sure it still does what you need.
