Catholic Score
4.2/5The short version
A Catholic prayer lock that keeps your chosen apps closed until you pray the day's Gospel or a decade of the Rosary, backed by the Douay-Rheims Bible and a full prayer library in Ave Pro.

Ave is built around one simple deal: pray first, then scroll. You pick the apps that distract you most, and they stay locked each day until you read the day's Gospel from Mass or pray one decade of the Rosary. Do either one and they open for the rest of the day.
The lock uses Apple's Screen Time and takes about three to five minutes to clear. It isn't a trap, either. A single Hail Mary opens your apps for 15 minutes, and an "Open my apps for today" button is always there. Optional evening, Sabbath and Angelus locks are there if you want more structure.
Behind the lock is a fuller Catholic prayer app. You get the Douay-Rheims Bible, the daily Mass readings, the Rosary, the Stations of the Cross, the Examen, the Hours and a prayer library, along with the saint of the day and a candle streak that forgives one missed day a week. Public-domain sacred art follows the seasons of the Church year, and an Advent journey is ready for this season.
Two things are worth knowing before you download it. The first is price. Ave is free to download and the Bible is free to read, but nearly everything else, including the Rosary, the Mass readings and the locks, needs Ave Pro. That costs $39.99 a year after a 7-day trial, or $5.99 a month. The second is the translation. The Mass readings use the Douay-Rheims, so the wording won't match what you hear at Mass in the US or Canada.
Ave was called First Light until this month, and it comes from an independent developer with no diocesan endorsement. It's still very new, with only one App Store rating so far. If your phone tends to get your first attention each morning, Ave is a direct and well-made way to change that, as long as the subscription suits you.
Is it faithful?
Fully Catholic in intent and content, with the Douay-Rheims Bible, the Rosary, the Stations of the Cross, the Examen and notes from the Church Fathers. It's an independent app and says it isn't endorsed by the USCCB or any diocese, bishop or ministry.
