Universalis is one of those rare Catholic apps that earns its place on a phone permanently. It started as a website that publishes the Liturgy of the Hours and daily Mass readings, and the app is the same — beautifully formatted, no ads, no nonsense.
Catholic Calendar shows you today's date in the liturgical year, what feast or memorial it is, who is the saint of the day, and the readings for the day's Mass. You can swipe forward or back to see upcoming days. Tap into any day and you get the full readings — first reading, psalm, second reading where applicable, Gospel, sometimes a short reflection.
What I appreciate most: Universalis doesn't editorialize. They give you the readings, the calendar, the propers — no commentary trying to interpret things for you, no graphics, no engagement hooks. Just the Church's prayer for the day, well-presented. The typography is excellent — easy to read in low light, easy to enlarge if your eyes need it.
What it's good for: anyone who wants to follow the liturgical calendar, prepare for Sunday Mass by reading the day's readings ahead of time, pray the Liturgy of the Hours, or just stay rooted in the Church's rhythm of feasts and memorials. Daily Mass-goers will love it.
What it's not: a missal substitute for in-person Mass, and not a community or social app. It's solitary and focused.
