Best Catholic Advent Apps for 2026: Get Ready for Christmas

To get ready for Christmas, Hallow is our pick for Advent 2026, because its daily prayer challenge does the planning for you. If you would rather pray with the Church’s own words and pay nothing, start with Divine Office. Advent begins Sunday, November 29.

The season goes fast. Twenty-six days of shopping, school concerts and work parties, and suddenly it’s Christmas Eve. A good app won’t fix that on its own, but it puts a few quiet minutes of prayer where your hand already goes fifty times a day.

Every app here was live on the App Store and free to download when we checked on November 4, 2026. Most need a subscription for the good stuff, so each entry shows the cost up front.

Our pick. Best for: anyone who wants the season planned for them.

Hallow runs an Advent prayer challenge every year, and it’s the easiest way we know to keep a daily prayer going without planning anything. Pray25 starts November 30 and runs through Christmas Day. Open it, press play, and you get a guided session, most around 10 minutes. It works in the car, or with the kids at bedtime.

The challenge isn’t free. It needs a trial or a subscription ($9.99 a month or $69.99 a year), and Hallow says an extended trial opens a few days before Advent. Set a reminder to cancel if you don’t plan to stay.

Best for: people who already love the print edition.

If you’ve ever used the little print Magnificat, this is the same thing on your phone: morning, evening and night prayer, the full text of each day’s Mass, and a short meditation on the Gospel. It’s the closest thing here to a missal in your pocket.

Print subscribers get it free, and first-time users get free access until the end of the month they install. After that you need a subscription ($24 a year), and it renews on its own, so watch the date. The app’s last update was October 2025.

Best for: the commute.

You get the day’s Mass readings with a short meditation written for regular people, not theologians, and you can listen to both on the drive to work. It has no ads, and there’s a free trial before the subscription starts ($1.99 a month or $22.99 a year).

Best for: anyone who wants more Scripture this Advent.

This is the app behind the Bible in a Year and Catechism in a Year plans so many parishes have gone through, with Fr. Mike Schmitz reading and commenting every day. If you’ve been meaning to start, Advent is a fair trial run. Plan on about twenty minutes a day. The audio is free, and the premium extras cost $59.99 a year or $8.99 a month.

Best for: first-timers to the Liturgy of the Hours.

Advent is a good season to start praying the Hours, and Divine Office makes it simple. Each day’s prayers load on their own, and you can pray along with the audio while you learn the rhythm. It’s free, which makes it our pick if you don’t want a subscription. Stay with it to December 17, when the O Antiphons begin at Evening Prayer.

Best for: keeping the season in view.

Liturgical is a clean little calendar: the Sunday of Advent you’re on, feasts like the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the daily readings. The home and lock screen widgets are the best part, because you see the season every time you pick up your phone. It’s a calendar and not a prayer app, so pair it with one of the others here.

Best for: the whole house.

Formed is a Catholic streaming service from the Augustine Institute. Many parishes pay for a membership their families can use for free, so check with yours before you subscribe. There’s Advent content on the shelf, from short reflections to films for family movie night and programs for kids. The App Store lists subscriptions at $9.99 and $99.99.

Best for: families and classrooms.

This one isn’t a prayer app, but it’s a lovely Advent habit. Every kind act adds an ornament to a virtual tree. The free version covers the whole activity, and the $1.99 Pro upgrade lets grandparents or cousins decorate a shared tree from anywhere. It has only 10 ratings and no CatholicApps.com Score yet, so treat it as a small extra.
