Playback is a free app from MultiTracks.com that turns an iPhone or iPad into a multitrack player for live worship music. It is a tool for musicians and music directors, not a prayer app.
The app plays backing tracks, click tracks, and ambient pads for a band performing live. You build setlists, link a Planning Center account to pull in your service plan, and sync lyrics to ProPresenter for the projection screen. The MultiTracks.com catalog behind it holds over 24,000 master recordings, and the app supports custom arrangements, automation, and MIDI cues for controlling other gear. It is a serious piece of production software wrapped in an interface a volunteer can run on a Sunday morning.
What strikes me is how much professional capability comes free at the entry level. A small music team that could never afford a dedicated tracks rig can run pads and a click from a phone. That lowers the barrier for a young ensemble trying to lead music well.
For Catholic parishes, the fit depends entirely on your music program. A contemporary ensemble at a Sunday evening Mass, a youth group praise night, or a Steubenville-style event team would get real use out of it. The pads alone are handy for filling silence during Eucharistic adoration with live musicians.
Know what it is, though. MultiTracks.com serves the evangelical worship-band world, and the catalog is contemporary worship music, the Hillsong and Bethel and Elevation repertoire. You will not find Mass settings, chant, or traditional hymnody in any depth. If your parish music is organ and choir, this app has nothing for you. The deeper features also require a Pro or Premium subscription, and the song catalog costs money per track.
