Dwell is an audio Bible app. The whole idea is to listen to Scripture rather than only read it, and the app is built carefully around that.
You pick a voice from more than twenty narrators, choose a translation, and listen. You can read along with the text on screen, set it to play you to sleep with soft background music, follow guided plans, work on memorizing passages, or just put on a book of the Bible while you do something else. The audio quality is genuinely good — these are real voices with music beds, not a flat robot reading.
I spent a week with it playing the Psalms in the morning, and there is something to hearing Scripture read aloud that reading silently does not give you. Words you have passed over a hundred times land differently when someone says them. For people who drive a lot or do not sit still easily, this is a real way to get Scripture into the day.
It is a good fit for a commute, for winding down at night, or for anyone who absorbs things better by ear. The sleep and meditation modes are nice for keeping Scripture going as the last thing you hear before bed.
Here is what you should know. Dwell is a Protestant app, made by an independent developer, and the translations on offer are the standard Protestant ones — you will not find a Catholic edition with the full canon, so the deuterocanonical books are not there. It is also a subscription app; you get a trial, then it asks you to pay yearly. None of that makes it bad, it just is not Catholic and it is not free.
It is free to start with a subscription after the trial, made by Dwell App, LLC. You can find it on the App Store: Dwell: Audio Bible. If you want to hear the Bible well-read and you do not mind the Protestant canon, it is one of the best at what it does.
