Catholic Bible – Malayalam app

Praying in the language of your childhood can open the heart in a way no other language does. For Malayalam-speaking Catholics, including the many families living far from Kerala, that matters a great deal. This app, listed as Catholic Bible in Malayalam, aims to put familiar prayers on the phone. Its store description points to basic prayers, blessing prayers, prayers to Jesus and Marian prayers.

What we can tell

The App Store listing says very little beyond that list of prayer types, so it is hard to judge how complete the collection is, or how much of the Bible itself is included despite the name. The app is free and runs on iPhone and iPad. It holds a 4.5 rating, but from only 13 users, so there is not much feedback to rely on.

The bigger concern is that it has not been updated since 2019. Apps that go years without updates can look dated, and some stop working well on newer versions of iOS. If you try it and it runs smoothly, there is no harm in keeping it, but it is wise not to depend on it as your only prayer resource.

Who it suits

It suits Malayalam speakers who want a few familiar prayers in their own language close at hand, such as daily prayers, blessings or prayers to Our Lady. Parents who want their children to hear and learn the prayers in Malayalam may find it a useful starting point. Grandparents may simply appreciate the familiar words.

If you need a full Malayalam Bible or a complete prayer book for the Syro-Malabar, Syro-Malankara or Latin Church, look for a better documented and more recently updated app, and keep this one as a supplement.

The verdict: a free, modest prayer app for Malayalam-speaking Catholics, but with thin details and no updates since 2019. Try it, and keep a better-supported option alongside it.
