Ascension is our pick for New Year 2027, because Bible in a Year and Catechism in a Year give you a plan and a daily voice to follow. If your resolution is to spend less time on your phone, start with Catholic DeVice.

Most resolutions fade by February. What helps is something small and daily that’s already in your hand. So we’ve sorted this list by resolution. Pick one, and let the rest wait.

Every app here was live on the App Store when we checked on November 5, 2026, and the cost sits under each name. Several have few ratings so far, and we say so.

1. Ascension: Catholic Bible

Ascension Publishing Group, LLC
Free, with Bible in a Year and Catechism in a Year audio included; premium $8.99 a month or $59.99 a year
★ 4.9 from 91,806 ratings (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 4.0/5

Our pick. If your resolution is: read the whole Bible, or finally learn the Catechism.

This is the home of Bible in a Year and Catechism in a Year, with Fr. Mike Schmitz reading and commenting every day. January 1 is the natural day to start, and you’ll be alongside a lot of other Catholics doing the same. It’s about twenty minutes a day, which is a real commitment. If you miss a day, pick up where you left off.

The God Minute app icon

2. The God Minute

Congregation of the Mission Western Province
Free
★ 4.7 from 249 ratings (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 4.4/5

If your resolution is: pray every day.

Each day a small group of priests, nuns and lay people lead you through about ten minutes of Scripture, reflection and soft music. You only have to press play, which is why it’s a good habit to keep in the car or at the kitchen table.

3. Word Among Us Mass Edition

The Word Among Us, Inc.
Free to download; subscription $1.99 a month or $22.99 a year
★ 4.9 from 12,344 ratings (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 3.8/5

If your resolution is: read the daily Mass readings.

You get the day’s readings with a short meditation, and you can listen to both on the way to work. It has no ads, and there’s a free trial before the subscription starts.

Catholic DeVice app icon

4. Catholic DeVice: App Blocker

Kingfisher Technologies LLC
Free; premium $6.99 a month, $39.99 a year or $89.99 lifetime
★ 5.0 from 4 ratings (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 4.4/5

If your resolution is: less scrolling.

Your chosen apps open only after a short traditional prayer, drawn from Scripture, the liturgy or the saints. There are no streaks to break, which is a kindness in February. The free version shields two apps. It’s new, with only a handful of ratings so far.

Ave app icon

5. Ave: Catholic Prayer Lock

James Russell Ustby
Free to download; Ave Pro $2.99 a week, $5.99 a month or $39.99 a year
★ 5.0 from 1 rating (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 4.2/5

If your resolution is: pray first, scroll later.

Ave keeps your chosen apps closed until you pray the day’s Gospel or a decade of the Rosary. It’s a fair lock, with a 15-minute pass when you really need your phone. The catch is that only the Bible is free, and nearly everything else needs Ave Pro.

Saintly app icon

6. Saintly: Learn Catholic Faith

Alexander Mayle
Free to download; subscription $6.99 a month or $40 a year
★ 5.0 from 7 ratings (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 3.6/5

If your resolution is: learn your faith, a little at a time.

Think of Duolingo for the Catechism: 16 short courses from beginner to advanced, plus the saint of the day and the daily readings. It has an AI companion that shows its sources, but AI answers can contain mistakes, so check them before you rely on them.

Ora app icon

7. Ora: Catholic Daily Prayer

BrookMind LLC
Free; premium $4.99 a year
★ 5.0 from 12 ratings (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 4.2/5

If your resolution is: start the morning with God.

Ora opens your day with a verse and the Daily Gospel, and adds a guided audio Rosary in English or Spanish, novenas and the saints of the day. It’s the gentlest way in on this list.

How we chose

We started from apps we’ve reviewed, then checked each one on the App Store for its price, rating and last update. The prayer locks and newer apps have few ratings so far, so weigh that against their scores. How we score apps explains the CatholicApps.com Score.

If we missed an app you use, tell us in the comments and we’ll take a look.
