Oraciones

For many Spanish-speaking Catholic families, prayer has always come in Spanish, passed down from grandmothers and parish missions. Oraciones keeps that treasury close at hand. It is a Spanish-language Catholic prayer book with a large collection of prayers for personal, family and liturgical use. The prayers are organised by occasion, so you can find one for the moment you are in.

What's inside

The collection includes daily prayers, prayers for particular needs, litanies, novenas and Marian prayers, the kind Spanish-speaking Catholic families have prayed with for generations. It is light and easy to use, and it works well as a pocket prayer book. It is clearly appreciated, with a 4.8 rating from more than 3,000 users, and it runs on iPhone and iPad.

Cost and caveats

Oraciones is free to download, with two optional upgrades listed in the store: Oraciones Plus for $0.99 and Oraciones Pro for $9.99. It is worth exploring the free version first to see whether you need either. The app hasn't been updated since 2023, which isn't ancient, but keep it in mind if you run into problems on a newer phone.

Everything is in Spanish. That is the point of the app, but it means English speakers won't get much from it unless they want to pray in Spanish. Bilingual families may find it a lovely way to keep the prayers of older generations alive with younger ones.

It suits Spanish-speaking Catholics in Latin America, Spain and across North America, Hispanic ministry leaders, and learners who want to pray the familiar prayers in Spanish. Grandparents may enjoy finding the litanies and novenas they grew up with.

The verdict: Oraciones is a well-loved Spanish Catholic prayer book that fits in your pocket. Start with the free version, and keep it on your phone if Spanish is your language of prayer.
