Mary, from the Marian Fathers, is our pick for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, because it explains who she is and gives you the prayers that go with it, for free. The feast falls on Friday, January 1, 2027, and it’s a holy day of obligation in the United States and Canada.

The Church opens the new year by calling Mary what the Council of Ephesus called her in 431: Mother of God. It’s a good day to get to know her better.

Every app here was live on the App Store when we checked on November 5, 2026, and the cost sits under each name. We keep Rosary apps on their own list, so if that’s what you’re after, see our best Catholic Rosary apps.

1. Mary

Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception
Free
★ 4.7 from 544 ratings (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 4.6/5

Our pick. Best for: learning who Mary is.

The Marian Fathers explain Mary’s titles, the dogmas about her and her feast days, then give you the prayers that go with them. It’s reading more than audio, and the last update was in December 2023, so don’t expect polish, but the teaching hasn’t dated. For sound Marian teaching, it’s an easy recommendation.

Magnificat app icon

2. Magnificat English Editions

Magnificat, Inc.
Free to download; subscription $24 a year, free for print subscribers
★ 4.3 from 870 ratings (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 4.0/5

Best for: praying through the year with a monthly prayer book.

Named for Mary’s own song, this is the print Magnificat on your phone: morning, evening and night prayer, the full text of each day’s Mass, and a short meditation on the Gospel. First-time users get free access until the end of the month they install, so a January start gives you the whole month to decide.

3. Marian: Rosary & Prayer

Daniel Szojka
Free; Patron upgrade $1.99 a month, $9.99 a year or $19.99 lifetime
New, no ratings yet (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 4.6/5

Best for: quiet prayer with no ads.

Marian does three devotions, the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Holy Wounds Chaplet, along with the daily Mass readings. The devotions are free and work offline. Visual beads and haptics keep your place. There’s no audio, so you pray along by reading.

Our Lady of Fatima app icon

4. Our Lady of Fatima (Audio)

Jose Ignacio Gonzalez Rivera
Free; premium $2.99
★ 4.7 from 113 ratings (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 4.6/5

Best for: keeping a nine-day novena.

The Fatima Novena, Chaplet, Rosary and Prayer of Consecration are all here, with audio to pray along with, a counter and reminders. It tracks your place in a novena, which is the hard part. The design is plain, and it covers Fatima devotions only.

Fatima Prayers app icon

5. Fatima Prayers

Pixolini, Inc.
Free
★ 5.0 from 4 ratings (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 4.6/5

Best for: learning the Fatima prayers, and teaching children.

The prayers the angel and Our Lady taught the three children, one at a time, in a clean free app. They’re short enough to teach the kids. January 2 happens to be a First Saturday, so the feast runs straight into it. This isn’t a full Rosary guide.

Seven Sorrows of Mary app icon

6. Seven Sorrows of Mary

Aquinas Communications, Inc.
Free
★ 4.1 from 56 ratings (Nov 2026)
CatholicApps.com Score 4.8/5

Best for: hard seasons.

This free app walks you through each of Our Lady’s sorrows in order, with the prayers to say and no clutter. It hasn’t been updated since 2021, which would normally keep it off our lists. We kept it because it’s still on the App Store and we haven’t found a better way to pray this devotion on a phone.

How we chose

We started from apps we’ve reviewed, then checked each one on the App Store for its price, rating and last update. We usually leave out apps not updated in three years, and the two exceptions here say why. For the rest of the season, see our Catholic apps for Christmas. How we score apps explains the CatholicApps.com Score.

If we missed an app you use, tell us in the comments and we’ll take a look.
