Catholic Community Radio

Catholic Community Radio is the phone app for a Louisiana-based Catholic radio station that runs as an EWTN affiliate. It streams the station live, around the clock. The station has since renamed itself Catholic Community Media on the App Store, but it is the same outfit.

What the app does is straightforward. You open it, the live stream starts, and you listen. Programming is a mix of EWTN national shows — Catholic Answers Live, the Doctor Is In, the daily Mass — and local programming from the Gulf South, which is where the station sits its tower. There is no on-demand archive inside the app; this is a live-radio app, not a podcast catcher.

I appreciate that you can have a Catholic voice in the kitchen or in the car without having to choose what to listen to. EWTN programming is doctrinally solid and the local hosts add a regional flavor that you do not get from the national feed alone. The Gulf South Catholic culture is its own thing — French roots, plenty of Marian devotion — and it comes through on the air.

Good for people who already like talk radio and want a Catholic alternative running in the background, for seniors who do not want to fiddle with a smart speaker, and for drivers in southern Louisiana who lose the AM signal once they get a few miles outside Baton Rouge or New Orleans.

It is not a polished app. It is built on the Radio King streaming platform, which means the interface is generic and the metadata about what is playing right now is hit and miss. If you want a deep on-demand library, EWTN's own app is a better choice.
