Bible – Catholic Study

Reading Scripture is a lifelong task, and sooner or later most Catholics want help understanding what they read. They want to know who wrote a letter and why, and how a passage connects to the rest of the Bible and to the teaching of the Church. A good study Bible answers those questions without pulling you away from the text itself.

What's free

Bible Catholic Study, from FutureSoft, gathers content from Ignatius Press, Lighthouse Catholic Media and the Augustine Institute. The full Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition is free, so you have the complete Catholic Bible on your phone from the start. Also free is the annotated Gospel of John from the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible, a good taste of what the full study notes offer.

There is plenty to listen to as well. The app includes more than ten hours of free audio presentations from Dr. Scott Hahn and the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, and you can browse, preview and stream hundreds of Lighthouse talks from well-known Catholic speakers. The Gospel of John from the Truth and Life dramatized audio Bible is included free.

What costs extra

The full Ignatius-Augustine Institute study notes, prepared by Dr. Scott Hahn and Curtis Mitch with notes, essays and commentary, cost $49.99. That is a real investment, though for serious students it is a substantial resource. Many individual talks are also sold separately, so the store can feel crowded with small purchases. You can order Ignatius Press e-books through the app too.

The app is maintained, with an update in February 2026, and holds a 4.9 rating from more than six thousand ratings.

This app suits anyone who wants a reliable Catholic Bible on their phone, Bible study groups, catechists and adults ready to go deeper into Scripture. Even if you never buy the study notes, the free Bible and talks make it worth downloading. If you do, you'll have one of the best Catholic study Bibles in your pocket.
