Our Review

Catholic Little Crown of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a free single-purpose prayer app from Leonard Mamangkey. It walks you through the Little Crown devotion as taught by St. Louis Marie de Montfort in True Devotion to Mary.

The Little Crown is a short prayer made of three Our Fathers and twelve Hail Marys, said in honor of the twelve privileges Our Lady received from the Holy Trinity — three for her excellence, four for her power, and five for her goodness. The app lays the prayers out cleanly with an indicator that shows where you are. There is an optional daily reminder so the devotion can become a habit, and an audio recitation if you would rather listen. The developer also includes the antiphons and the closing prayer.

What I appreciate is that the app does one devotion and does it carefully. St. Louis de Montfort's writings are not as widely known as they should be, and a tool that puts one of his recommended prayers on your phone is a small gift. The developer also asks for prayers for the holy souls in Purgatory and for himself in his work — a quiet sign that this was built as an act of devotion, not as a side hustle.

This is a good fit for anyone making the Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary, since the Little Crown is often part of that thirty-three day preparation. It works for daily Marian devotion alongside the Rosary, for May and October devotions, and for confraternities of the Brown Scapular or the Miraculous Medal who want a short Marian prayer in the morning.

The app covers only the Little Crown — it does not include the full Rosary, the Litany of Loreto, or other Marian prayers. The interface is plain and the design is dated. If you are looking for a single app with everything Marian, this is not it. As a focused tool, it does what it sets out to do.

Catholic Little Crown of the Blessed Virgin Mary is free from Leonard Mamangkey on the App Store at apps.apple.com. For anyone working through Montfort's consecration or building a daily Marian rule, this is a worthwhile companion.

From St. Louis Marie de Montfort, "True Devotion To Mary"

If it is not too inconvenient, they should recite every day of their lives the Little Crown of the Blessed Virgin, which is composed of three Our Fathers and twelve Hail Marys in honour of the twelve glorious privileges of Mary. This prayer is very old and is based on Holy Scripture. St. John saw in a vision a woman crowned with twelve stars, clothed with the sun and standing upon the moon. According to biblical commentators, this woman is the Blessed Virgin.

There are several ways of saying the Little Crown but it would take too long to explain them here. The Holy Spirit will teach them to those who live this devotion conscientiously. However, here is a simple way to recite it. As an introduction say: "Virgin most holy, accept my praise; give me strength to fight your foes", then say the Creed. Next, say the following sequence of prayers three times: one Our Father, four Hail Marys and one Glory be to the Father. In conclusion say the prayer Sub tuum - "We fly to thy patronage".
