Our Review

Catholic Liturgical Calendar is a free calendar app focused on the Church's year — feasts, memorials, seasons, Holy Days, and the start and end dates of Advent, Lent, Easter, and Ordinary Time. It calculates the moving feasts (Easter, Ash Wednesday, Pentecost) dynamically for any year you scroll to.

Open the app and you see the current day in the liturgical calendar — what season it is, what color the vestments are, what saint or feast is being observed. You can scroll forward to look ahead at upcoming feasts and backward to check past ones. There's a list view of the whole year and a month-by-month grid. Multilingual support is in progress — English is the main option for now.

What I find useful is the at-a-glance feel. If you want to know whether tomorrow is a Holy Day of Obligation, or which Sunday of Easter you're in, or when Lent starts next year, this app answers in two taps. It's the kind of thing my mother used to keep on the kitchen wall as a paper calendar from the parish.

Good for catechists planning a year, parents wanting to celebrate feast days at home, anyone making travel plans around major feasts, and Catholics who want to be aware of which saints' days fall during the week. Also useful for parish staff who get the "is Father wearing green or violet this Sunday?" question often.

It's just a calendar — no readings, no Office, no prayers. Pair it with a missal app or Magnificat for the actual content. The saint entries are short; if you want a fuller life of the saint you'll need a separate resource.

Free, by Joseph Stalin Alucious Selvaraj. Available on the App Store: Catholic Liturgical Calendar. A useful free reference to keep on a phone.
