Catholic Prayers Novena

A novena is nine days of prayer asking God for a particular grace, often through the intercession of a saint. It is one of the most loved forms of Catholic prayer because it gives shape to hope while we wait on something important. Catholic Prayers Novena collects many of these prayers in one app. Its list includes novenas to St. Jude, St. Thérèse, St. Benedict, St. Joseph, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Anne, St. Francis of Assisi and Pope St. John Paul II.

What's inside

Alongside the saints, you'll find the Divine Mercy Novena and novenas to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Infant Jesus. The store promises hundreds of novenas in all. You can save favourites, search across every novena and share the app with friends. For someone who prays novenas often, having them searchable in one place is convenient.

Price and caveats

The pricing needs care. The app is free to download, but full access to all prayers is listed as a $19.99 in-app purchase. The store description adds to the confusion by describing a subscription with a free trial, with wording about weekly, monthly and annual charges that doesn't add up. Read the terms on the purchase screen carefully before you pay, and check your subscriptions afterward.

The app also hasn't been updated since 2023, and it has only two ratings, averaging 3.0. That is not much to go on for an app asking this much money. Many of these novenas can also be found in free Catholic prayer apps.

It suits Catholics who pray novenas regularly, want a wide selection in one searchable place and are comfortable with the price. If you only need a single novena, such as one to St. Jude or the Divine Mercy Novena before Divine Mercy Sunday, a free option will do.

The verdict: a broad collection of novenas with useful search and favourites, held back by confusing pricing and no updates since 2023. Try what's free first, and be sure of the cost before buying.
