Some mornings all you want is the Word of God, without a feed to scroll or an account to sign into first. Lectionarium is built for that moment. It does one thing: it shows today's Mass readings, simply. Open it and the day's Scripture is there, ready to read before work, at lunch, or before heading to daily Mass.

A deliberately simple app

The minimalism is the whole appeal. There are no feeds, no accounts and no clutter, and at under 5 MB it barely takes up space on your phone. The app is free, and the only purchases are optional tips to support the developer. It was updated in May 2026 and holds a 4.5 rating from 58 users, which suggests the people who want exactly this are happy with it.

What you won't find matters just as much. There are no reflections, no audio readings and no library of prayers, and there is no Liturgy of the Hours. If you want commentary to help you pray with the readings, an app like Word Among Us or Laudate will give you more.

Who it suits

Lectionarium suits Catholics who already know how they want to pray with Scripture and simply need the text. It fits well with lectio divina, where the point is to read slowly and listen rather than be told what a passage means. Daily Mass-goers who like to read ahead, lectors preparing to proclaim, and anyone who has grown tired of apps that try to do everything will appreciate it.

It also makes a good second app. Many Catholics keep a larger app for prayers and devotions, and having a clean, fast way to reach the readings alongside it is useful. Because it asks nothing of you, it is easy to turn into a daily habit.

The verdict: if you want the day's readings and nothing else, Lectionarium is clean, quick and free. Leave the developer a tip if it becomes part of your morning.
