The God Minute

The God Minute is a daily prayer app built around a ten-minute guided reflection. Each day a small group of priests, nuns, and lay people lead you through a short time of prayer you can listen to.

The daily prayer weaves together soft music, a passage of sacred Scripture, and a thoughtful reflection, all timed to run about ten minutes. You press play and listen, with your morning coffee, in the car, or while walking the dog. There is nothing to read or assemble; the prayer is prepared for you.

What I appreciate is how achievable it makes daily prayer. Ten minutes is short enough that you actually do it, and having voices, Scripture, and music carry the prayer takes away the excuse that you do not know where to start. It turns a vague intention into something you can simply press play on.

It fits anyone who wants to begin or end the day in prayer but struggles to be consistent, commuters who want their drive to count for something, and people who pray better when they are led rather than left to their own words. It works well for busy parents and for anyone easing back into a prayer life.

The honest caveats are few. This is a guided audio reflection, not a full breviary or a Mass-readings app, so it is a complement to the Church's daily prayer rather than a replacement for it. The style is calm and contemplative, which not everyone will want first thing in the morning.

The God Minute is free, from the Congregation of the Mission Western Province, the Vincentian priests, a Catholic religious community. You can find it on the App Store through The God Minute. As a simple, beautiful way to make ten minutes of daily prayer a habit, it is easy to recommend.
