Our Review
Verbum Catholic Bible Study is the mobile app for the Verbum / Logos library by Faithlife. It is the heavy-duty Catholic study tool of the bunch — Bible text, Catholic commentaries, the Catechism, the Church Fathers, and a search engine that ties them all together.
The app itself is free to download. What you can read inside depends on what you own. Faithlife sells Catholic resource bundles ranging from a small free starter library up through scholar-level packages. Once a resource is in your account, the app gives you access on your phone — Bible text side-by-side with commentary, lectionary readings for daily Mass, the ability to tap any word and pull up Catechism paragraphs or what the Church Fathers said about it.
What I appreciate is that this is one of the few Catholic apps built for actual study, not just devotion. The search is fast, the cross-linking is genuine, and the offline mode works on planes. If you have ever wished you could look something up the way a seminarian does without owning a shelf of books, this is what that looks like on a phone.
Good for priests preparing homilies, RCIA leaders building a class, seminarians, deacons, catechists, and laypeople who take Bible study seriously. Also useful for anyone who wants to pair the Catechism with the Bible passage they are reading.
It is not a casual app. The interface assumes you know what a commentary is and how to use one. Most of the deep library content is paid, sometimes expensive, and Faithlife runs a lot of upgrade prompts. If you only want a daily reading and a rosary, this is too much app.
Free download, by Faithlife Corporation (the Logos people). Available on the App Store: Verbum Catholic Bible Study. The best mobile Catholic study tool I have used.
