Cornerstone: Bible & Catechism

Many Catholics open a Bible app wanting more than the bare text. They want to know how the Church has read a passage, to brush up on the basics of the faith, and to pray a decade on the drive home. Cornerstone tries to hold all of that in one place, and it does a surprising amount of it well.

What's inside

At its centre is the complete 73-book Catholic Bible, deuterocanonical books included, in several translations. Alongside the text sits verse-by-verse commentary from the early Church Fathers, including Origen, Chrysostom and Augustine, along with the Catena Aurea. Reading a passage and then seeing how the Church has understood it for centuries is the kind of formation most Bible apps leave out.

Beyond Scripture, the app turns the Baltimore Catechism into short, structured lessons you can work through like a reading plan. Guided audio prayers cover the Rosary in all four sets of mysteries, the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Angelus, read by a calm narrator with the words on screen. There is also an examination of conscience with a confession companion, the Sunday Mass readings, reading plans, a daily Bible quiz and verse images to share.

Worth knowing

Cornerstone is built for a daily habit, so it tracks your progress with points and ranks that move you from Seeker toward Saint. If that feels out of place in prayer, Quiet Mode switches the game features off and leaves a plain reader, while your progress keeps counting in the background. The app works offline with no account, and your notes and highlights stay on your device unless you choose a free account to sync them.

The app itself is free, from independent Catholic developer Michael Hayter, and it is also on Google Play. Unlimited lessons and the full Church Fathers commentary on every verse belong to Cornerstone Plus, which the developer made free for everyone through September 15, 2026, so check the current terms in the app. It is also new enough that it has no App Store ratings yet.

It suits families who want Bible, catechism and prayer in one app, Confirmation and RCIA candidates who would rather learn the Baltimore Catechism in small pieces than from a textbook, and anyone building a daily Scripture habit.
