Florida Catholic News is the mobile app from the Florida Catholic, a Catholic news outlet that has reported on the Church in Florida since 1939. It puts that coverage on your phone.
The app brings you news stories about parishes, dioceses, schools, and Catholic life across the state, along with photos and video from the outlet's multimedia side. You can scroll the latest headlines or look back through recent coverage, and tap into a story to read the whole thing. It pulls from the same newsroom that has been doing this work for decades.
What I appreciate is that it keeps you close to what is actually happening in the Church near you, not just the national headlines. Diocesan news tends to get missed. An app like this puts local ordinations, parish anniversaries, and school news in front of you without you having to go looking for it.
It is a good fit for Catholics living in Florida, or anyone with family there who still wants to follow the local Church. People who have moved away but care about their old diocese, and snowbirds who split the year, will get the most out of it.
It is not a national news app, and almost everything inside is tied to Florida. If you live somewhere else, the value drops off fast. It is also a news reader, not a prayer or devotional tool, so there are no readings, no calendar, and no prayers built in.
It is free, published by Florida Catholic Media, Inc. You can find it on the App Store: Florida Catholic News. A solid pick if Florida is home and you want to keep up with the local Church.
