3.6/5The short version
A Duolingo-style way to learn the Catholic faith, with 16 short courses built on the Catechism, plus the saint of the day, daily readings, the Rosary and an AI companion that cites its sources.

Saintly teaches the Catholic faith in short daily lessons, in the style of Duolingo. You follow one clear path through 16 courses and more than 250 lessons, with quizzes, XP and a streak to bring you back. The courses run from Foundations of the Faith and The Rosary up to The Seven Sacraments, Church history and apologetics.
Around the courses, Saintly has grown into a daily Catholic companion. There's a saint of the day, the daily Mass readings, a Bible reader with a verse-by-verse view, a prayer book, a guided Rosary, the Examen and Scripture to fall asleep to.
The app comes from Alexander Mayle, a 29-year-old Catholic in Munich, Germany, who works in tech and builds Saintly on his own. It has been out since May 2026. We asked why he made it.
"I was baptized as a child, but I came to the faith as an adult, and that's when I received Confirmation," he told us. Learning the faith, he found, meant assembling it himself: "you have to piece everything together yourself from books, podcasts, talks and homilies, and from conversations with priests and other believers." Saintly is his answer to that: "every day you learn something small and new, in a playful, gamified way that is fun."
His favourite part is the courses, which walk through the Catechism step by step, but he says the real value is how the basics connect. "None of it is flashy on its own, but together it makes a good home for your faith." He adds that he develops the app in conversation with theologians, churches and religious orders.
The AI needs a closer look. Glowy, the app's companion, answers questions about the faith using Magisterium AI and shows the Catholic sources behind each answer, so you can check them. That's a good safeguard, but AI answers can still be wrong, and the app's own Google Play listing says so. Saintly also lets you chat with saint personas, which can blur the line between what a saint actually said and what a model generated. Treat those chats as a reflection aid, and take real questions to a priest.
Lessons, the saint of the day and the Bible reader give you plenty to try for free. Saintly Plus unlocks more courses and features for $6.99 a month or $40 a year. For anyone who likes learning in small daily steps, including people in OCIA and returning Catholics, it's a promising start from a young app.
Is it faithful?
Catholic in intent and content, with lessons written and reviewed against the Catechism, according to the developer. It carries no imprimatur or diocesan endorsement that we could find. AI answers through Magisterium AI cite Catholic sources but can still be wrong, and the chats with saint personas are AI-generated, not the saints' own words.
