Travelling, moving to a new town or simply running late on a Saturday, many Catholics have found themselves searching for the nearest Mass or a church hearing Confessions. Parish websites are often out of date, and a quick search rarely gives a clear answer. A good Mass finder can mean the difference between receiving the sacraments and missing them.

What it does

The Catholic App aims to be a spiritual companion for daily Catholic life, built around finding Mass and Confession. It shows the times that are soonest and closest to you, even without an internet connection. You can plan ahead by entering any address in the covered area and seeing results for a future day, then view them as a list or on a map. Each listing shows the language of the Mass or Confession, and one tap opens Google Maps navigation to the church.

It also includes a weekly spiritual inspiration and news channels where dioceses and parishes can post updates and digital newsletters, which you can follow without giving any personal information. The app itself is available in seven languages, and you can report wrong or missing times.

The big limitation

All of this depends on coverage, and the app currently covers only parts of the United Kingdom and Sweden. If you live elsewhere, it won't help you find a Mass. Churches can be added for free, but until yours is listed, the app has little to offer.

It is free, with no in-app purchases listed, but it hasn't been updated since February 2024 and has only one rating on the App Store, so it is hard to judge how well its listings are kept up.

The Catholic App suits Catholics living in or visiting the covered parts of the UK and Sweden, especially travellers and those who attend Mass in another language. Within that area, its offline search and language details are genuinely useful. Outside it, look for a Mass finder that covers your country.
